RE: Important Please Read - Potential Daylight Saving Time Problems P.S. Please note - we don't have a Microsoft patch for Windows 2000 machines. We have a Registry hack that seems to work. Please contact the Helpdesk if you need this. ________________________________ From: xxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, 28 March 2008 To: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Important Please Read - Potential Daylight Saving Time Problems Importance: High As you are probably aware, Daylight Savings has been extended in most states this year. It finishes one week later (April 6), and will start again three weeks earlier (October 5). This has caused a few systems issues as you are also probably aware. Information Services has been working on these issues, and most of them should be resolved soon. There are a few things each user can do to help too though. 1. The registry fix to install the DST updates should have been deployed to most machines automatically. However you can install it manually too. Depending on your site please click on the file server link closest to you. (I know Brisbane users aren't directly affected by Daylight Savings Changes, but it can't hurt to update your Windows boxes with this.) MELBOURNE \\server\software\ServicePacks\MicrosoftHotFixes\KB942763(DST) SYDNEY \\server\software\ServicePacks\MicrosoftHotFixes\KB942763(DST) BRISBANE \\server\software\ServicePacks\MicrosoftHotFixes\KB942763(DST) 2. Choose the Operating System appropriate to your machine(s), and run the exe in the corresponding folder. If you get an error like this, don't worry it just means you already have the patch. Image: [ KB942763 Setup Error] Update cannot be installed as a newer or same timezone update has already been installed on the system. [ OK ] 3. This is the most important job. You only need to run this from your main machine that you use with Outlook. (If you don't use Outlook, just ignore this.) Please go to the TZMOVE folder under the same link as you used above, and run the executable there. This program will scan your Exchange calendar, and update the time on most of your meetings that may be currently out of synch. Please note, if you are not the meeting originator, you will have to wait for the meeting owner to run this update before the time is correct. For meetings that have owners outside Australia, Information Services is hoping to run a global update next week some time, but this will not be until later in the week at this stage. If you have any problems or concerns, please contact the Helpdesk. Other points to note: 1. If your computer shows the wrong time next week, PLEASE DON'T ADJUST THE TIME YOURSELF. Instead contact the Helpdesk, and we will try to work out what has gone wrong. Changing the time manually will make things worse in many cases. 2. Blackberry devices may have time problems next week. We are still working on this, but it is probably better to leave things as they are, unless later advised otherwise. 3. Meeting Room bookings should probably be double-checked for next week. 4. We don't anticipate any problems with Unix and Linux systems, however we will be monitoring these, and will deal with any issues separately. 5. As per my yesterday's email, don't rely on Outlook or Blackberry devices 100% to have the correct time for your meetings. They should be reliable now for most meetings, but I would personally advise you to check if in any doubt.
